It is cold, very cold outside. And while the temperature is still dropping and we are waiting for the warmer air, that the fashion week in Paris will bring us, in the cold London the past few days were back to business again. London men’s fashion week, offering us an exclusive first sneak-peak to the trends for the next fall-winter season, brought us back to the party mood after the sad reality comeback. Here are few trends figuring on the catwalks. Can’t wait to see them on the streets!
Chewbacca is back, for good.
Chewbacca is back to the big screen and fur is back to the menswear collections for the fall-winter 2016. A coincidence? Probably not. As one of the strongest trends that were discovered during London Men’s Fashion Week was the fur, and a lot of it, making it one of the biggest trends for the next cold season. Not only we saw coats cut entirely from a woolly material and coats made of fur, it’s also spilling over into other full-on furry items such as sweatshirts and trousers. From Burberry to Coach and through, the warm furry clothes dominated on the catwalk.
Interesting knitting.
As many of the designers are predicting that the next fall-winter will be cold, the knitted pieces are also figured quite a lot on the runways. Saying bye-bye to the old shirts and ties, cardigans, crewneck and turtle neck sweaters, oversize warm coats, were a big part of many catwalks, introducing very interesting and special patterns and colors. Alexander McQueen, J.W. Anderson, and many other designers introduced us new and special knitted pieces to warm us up in the next cold season.
Spirit of a warrior and military inspired.
Thinking of military, our thoughts turn to the battlefield and to the men willing to put their lives on the line to protect their nations. Unusual it is to think that the word “fashion” will pop in our minds thinking of military, but military inspired pieces are among out biggest companions when it comes to clothes, and the next autumn-winter season won’t be an exception. From camouflage inspired colors, to peacoats and bomber jackets military inspired clothes were seen in the major shows like Burberry and Coach.
No matter what we party tonight.
From silk and metallic fabrics, usually appearing on the summer catwalks, to many shiny and colorful pants, coats, suits and shorts and twisty jackets, the party spirit accompanied many shows, some of the pieces introduced on the runway reminded us the New Years parties. Here is to a hope for a better future and for more reasons to celebrate. From Patrick Grant’s roller-disco nostalgia to Guillaume and Charles Jeffrey and Moschino, among many others, including newcomers like 1205, everyone is hoping to continue the spirit of the New Year eve’s parties.
Copper color.
While the spring-summer 2016 collections dominated with the grey color, for the following fall-winter seasons the colors are starting to come back to us, and one of the most dominating of them will be the copper. From Burberry to Topman Design, Richard James and many others introduced outfits with copper pieces, including small details like ties or shoes and following by suits and coats. This for sure will be a worth why investment for the next autumn-winter season.
Gender Neutral.
While the term “transgender” had been used quite for a while now, after models like Andrej Pegic stormed the runways for the past few years, it is only recently when the designers started to introduce many gender-blending pieces on the runways. The new era of a Gender Neutral generation is rising. From Alexander McQueen to Burberry, and others, gender blending closes figured in many shows for the next autumn-winter season, reminding us of the fashion legacy of David Bowie and his legendary hits. Which brings us to the saddest point of London men’s fashion week.
A tribute.
On a final and sad note, David Bowie’s passing away on the day before the last day of London men’s fashion week caught everyone unprepared and shocked. The legendary singer passed away on January 10th, after a secret battle he was fighting against liver cancer. The news of his illness kept secret and his death left his friends and fans around the world heartbroken, and the world of fashion is mourning too. The last day of men’s fashion week in London, many shows welcomed their guests with songs by Bowie and one of the models on Burberry’s show introduced a special tribute, while the designer Paul Smith took a special photograph, holding a t-shirt he made in a collaboration with Bowie specially for the musician’s last album.
